Electric Vehicles may Run in 2021

posted in: Motorsport 0

It is anticipated that Series Production Electric Vehicles will be able to enter the Motorsport Australia Zestino Tyres NSW Supersprint Championship by Round 4 this year. If this can be achieved, it will give competitors the ability to run in 3 supersprints (Rounds 4, 5 & 6) which is required to qualify for the Australian National Supersprint Championships that will be held in conjunction with Round 7 on Sunday 21st November 2021.

The Motorsport Australia EVWG (Electric Vehicles Working Group) plan to have available details of requirements for Event Organisers and Event Officials shortly.

The Motorsport Australia NSW Supersprint Panel are currently working on Technical Regulations for a new Type that will be added to the State and National Supersprint Championship: Type EV – Series Production Electric Vehicles.

Vehicles competing in this Type will most probably be placed in classes based on the Manufactures Recommended Retail Price including any extras included at the time of purchase. These vehicles will not be permitted to have any modifications to the electrical system, and all vehicles in this Type will need to have a Motorsport Australia Log Book that includes certification by an electrical engineer that the electrical systems have not been modified at all.

This information is preliminary as the Panel has yet to see the EVWG documentation and consider how it will include this new Type in the NSW Supersprint Championship. We will keep everyone posted as to progress in this exiting new category to our sport.
