Electric Vehicles may Run in 2021

posted in: Motorsport 0

It is anticipated that Series Production Electric Vehicles will be able to run in the Motorsport Australia Zestino Tyres NSW Supersprint Championship later this year. As this hasn’t been finalised by Round 1, these vehicles, if subsequently permitted, will be able to run in Championship events but may not be able to have sufficient Rounds to qualify for Championship awards.

The NSW Supersprint Panel is awaiting the Motorsport Australia EVWG (Electric Vehicles Working Group) to make available details of EV requirements for Event Organisers and Event Officials shortly.

The Motorsport Australia NSW Supersprint Panel are currently working on Technical Regulations for a new Type that may be added to the State and National Supersprint Championship: Type EV – Series Production Electric Vehicles.

It is anticipated that these vehicles will be standard road registered production vehicles and will not be permitted to have any modifications to the electrical system, but may be allowed freedoms in suspension and brakes.

This information is preliminary as the Panel has yet to see the EVWG documentation and consider how it will include this new Type in the NSW Supersprint Championship. We will keep everyone posted as to progress in this exiting new category to our sport.
